NIGERIA: BEWARE OF GHANIAN UNIVERSITIES

04/EEN/012
The All Nations University, Koforidua, Ghana, has warned higher education-thirsty Nigerians against patronising Ghanaian institutions parading unapproved programmes in the country.

The Country Representative of the institution in Nigeria, Miss Foluso Adebambo, gave this warning while briefing the press about the approval given to the university by the Ghana National Accreditation Board to offer degree programme in oil and gas in Lagos on Monday.

The university, according to the site of the NAB, is the only university in Ghana that has the approval to run programme in oil and gas.

According to her, Nigerians should beware of some universities, particularly those from Ghana, claiming to have approval to run programmes in Nigeria.

Adebambo, who spoke against the backdrop of discreet moves by some foreign universities to hoodwink Nigerians into enrolling for degree programmes in their study centres in Nigeria, said that such action was illegal.

“Nigerians should be wary of foreign institutions that are purportedly running degree programmes in some so-called study centres because it is illegal in Nigeria to do so.

“The only thing that I know that a foreign university such as ANU that we are representing can do is to come to Nigeria to attract prospective students, not that a foreign institution will come here under the disguise of a programme in a mushroom study centre to award degree,” she said.

Such a programme, she said, would be unknown to the Nigerian government.

Adebambo, who is the Chief executive Officer of the Positive Change Limited, an education agency, therefore warned Nigerians against wasting their resources and time on such a venture.

“If you must go to a foreign university, do your findings very well before you take a decision,” she said.
